Binyan Huf’al: Future Tense – “Peh-Nun”

In the Huf’al binyan, roots that begin with nun (נ) undergo assimilation in the future tense. The nun disappears, and the second root letter is doubled with a dagesh. The forms are built with the standard Huf’al future tense prefixes (א, ת, י, נ) plus the assimilated root.

Example

  • נ.ג.שׁ → להיות מוגש (to be served/presented)
    • אֻגַּשׁ – I will be served/presented
    • תֻּגַּשׁ – you (m.s.) will be served/presented / she will be served/presented
    • תֻּגְּשִׁי – you (f.s.) will be served/presented
    • יֻגַּשׁ – he will be served/presented
    • נֻגַּשׁ – we will be served/presented
    • תֻּגְּשׁוּ – you (pl.) will be served/presented
    • יֻגְּשׁוּ – they will be served/presented
